Note that it's only bad if he gawks at or flirts with other women when out with his wife.

So, what, if he's out with someone else's wife, it's OK?

In other news, I think that Big Nose Kate Elder would have resented history's view of her as Doc Holliday's sidekick. She probably would have had it the other way around.

Ah, but that's the psychology of it -- if he's out with his wife and he's flirting, then he's basically insulting her ability to be a home-maker. If he's out by himself or his (guy) friends and flirting, then no one will know; he'll blend right in with the other ass-pinching, comment-making dipshits that seemed to loiter at every freaking intersection.

While I personally think having my partner snore is a non issue, I know plenty of men who dumped women who snore. Something about not being "feminine" enough when sleeping.

I checked, but didn't see "Snores" on the Wife's Chart, only the Husband's. I guess in the 30s, women didn't snore; must have been nice for them! Similar to that "Women don't sweat, they perspire" horseshit.

There's a woman's chart? And you didn't post it?

Er, if you follow the link to flikr, it's in the set. Naturally, the men's part comes first -- it's from 1939, after all.

Eh, that didn't surprise me. This was before WWII made people realize women could earn their own money. Working at a job, no less! Just like men!!!

If you want to feel amusement about it, imagine how much it must have seemed like a Steven King horror story come to life for the schmucks who finally found out that they weren't irreplaceable.

it doesn't surprise me, but it still horrifies me. ;)

what's that show... matchstick men? have you seen it? DEAR GOD, it's amazing the crap that women put up with in the workforce.

Maybe it's to make up for rampant female illiteracy in 1939? I got nothin'.

FWIW, I've actually dated women who liked to hear me tell stories. Odd, but true.

The last time I drove out to see my oldest sister, Josh read me Coraline along the drive. It helped keep me awake, though it wasn't without its challenges.

I also knew a couple (they broke up) who would alternate reading chapters of the latest Harry Potter to one another, so that neither of them finished it first.

I did like bedtime stories when I was a kid, and reading aloud does have some benefits, but in general, if I'm interested in an article, I'll read it my own damn self.

No, I haven't. But reading articles aloud to me would irritate me, nonetheless.
