But it feels like it should be Friday night. Has it been that long a week? The kicker is that I don't feel like I got a whole lot done. Between being sick on Monday (although I did get a bunch of work done once I left work and took a little nap), spending pretty much all of Wednesday in meetings and spending this morning in the pilot plant, I did a whole lot without much of any concrete results or deliverables (it wasn't even my test in the pilot plant, I was just reacquainting myself with the equipment and generally lending a hand to my team).
Ugh.

Apparently, it's not only rich girls who get away with hit-and-run. Robert Novak (you might remember him as the guy who revealed Valerie Plame was a super-agent, not just a mild-mannered consultant) hit a man in a crosswalk in DC and took off. He was only caught when a cyclist was able to get ahead of him in the heavy DC traffic and blocked him in until the police arrived. Somehow he's only charged with failure to yield, not hit-and-run or leaving the scene of an accident.
Novak said "I didn't know I hit him. ... I feel terrible." The cyclist said, "The guy is sort of splayed into the windshield." If Novak really didn't notice a guy on his windshield, he needs his license revoked.
The guy he hit thankfully only had minor injuries, and was surprised that he was hit by someone famous. "Bob Novak is the one who hit me? – That makes a great story!"

| Lakes are so inconvenient... |

Anyone who plans to arrange their life, such that it involves a commute across Lake Washington, on the Evergreen Point floating bridge, needs their head examined.
Including me.

| Tomatoes! |
[24 Jul 2008|01:34pm] |
In response to the whole tomatoes will kill you dead thing currently gripping our country, I was thinking of hosting my own Salmonella-Be-Damned tomato rebellion Slow Food Social. I figured everyone could bring their favorite salsa recipe (tomato-based or not) and the ingredients. We'd make food, hang out in the sun, drink sangria (or perhaps Bloody Mary's). And then we'd all gather for a viewing of "Attack of the Killer Tomatoes!"
I was thinking of Saturday, August 9th, to coordinate with Slow Food Northern NJ's Tomato Day that Sunday. Anyone interested?

So my little assassin bugs are still around. They are still in their nymph stage, and with the siggestions for Sandy, I took a good close look at them yesterday and see where the wing buds are. I am trying to find out how long the nymph stage lasts and when they will fully molt into adults. I just can't seem to find that info. Anyone know? Point me to where I can find it?

Damned if I can get enough of PartyLite, even though I don't sell anymore. Anyway, check out the new catalogs! LOTS of cool stuff to give as gifts -- candle tins, mini barrels, spa products. I want the little owl they introduced. And I'll probably get the Spooky Time Halloween House. And possibly the Haunted Tealight Tree to go with my Witch's House. Heh.
Maybe I'll do another book show with Jen. Get some items checked off the Xmas list nice and early! (And restock on reed diffusers!)
Oh and Amanda, Linda and Nicole, I'll have your stuff from the last book show for you this weekend. (I suck.)

| Ug great |
[23 Jul 2008|02:18pm] |

So I went for blood test on friday. I wanted to get my blood glucose tested and on my record so that the issue of me having gestational diabetes isn't an issue when we are applying for new health insurance. The doctor also figured, while I'm at it, check my cholesterol levels too. My LDL came back at 54! Wow, so great. My HDL came back at 62! Great. Great. My fasting blood sugar came back at 64. Too low, or at least not in the normal 70-99 range for fasting BG. But, 6 points? come on. Anyway, she wants to see me again to discuss the results. Oh well.

| Too Easily Amused |
[23 Jul 2008|10:58am] |
Spent some time reading about UML today because I saw it on job descriptions and wondered if it would be useful to me.
I found myself writing the following description in my notebook:
Ludicrously Over-Engineering Software Engineering Methodology, Only Appropriate To Aviation, Medicine, Industrial Infrastructure, and Banking
Which makes a neat acronym: LOESEM/OATAMIIB
Pronounced "Low-sem O-tam-ib"
Say it fast and it sounds like some kind of Lovecraft monster, the "Loathesome Otamib."

| anyone looking for a mattress? |
[23 Jul 2008|12:38pm] |
i bought an ikea mattress (sultan fageras) and while i like it, my plan was to use it as a spare bed in our downstairs room. but it takes up 1/2 the room (it's a queen) and while my futon frame folds, the mattress itself doesn't. paid $138, would like $120 for it. it rolls up, and i'd be willing to deliver it to philly.
very firm, polyurethane foam. sat on breifly and cars played on it, and i think the cat has picked it as his new sleeping spot. looks brand new aside from cathair (which i will remove.)
